Crowns
We are dedicated to helping you achieve a beautiful and healthy smile. One of the most effective solutions we offer for restoring and enhancing your teeth is dental crowns.
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are custom-made caps that encapsulate the entire visible portion of your tooth. They are designed to restore a damaged or decayed tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance.
Crowns are made from various materials, such as porcelain, ceramic, and composite resin, each offering different benefits depending on your specific needs.
When are dental crowns necessary?
Dental crowns are recommended for several dental issues, such as:
- Severe Tooth Decay: A tooth is extensively decayed and cannot be restored with a filling or inlay.
- Broken or Fractured Teeth: To protect and restore the function of a tooth that is cracked or broken.
- Root Canal Therapy: A crown is often recommended to protect the weakened tooth after a root canal.
- Large Fillings: When a tooth has a large filling, its strength and integrity are affected.
- Cosmetic Enhancement: To improve the appearance of discoloured, misshapen, or otherwise unattractive teeth.
- Dental Implants: Crowns are used to cap dental implants, providing natural-looking tooth replacement.
What does the process entail?
Usually, the process of receiving a dental crown involves two visits to Dental Legacy Care:
First Visit: Preparation and Impression
- Examination and Preparation: Your dentist will examine the tooth and prepare it for the crown by getting rid of any decay and shaping it to fit the crown.
- Impression: An impression of the prepared tooth is made to create a custom-fit crown. This impression is transferred to a dental laboratory to have the crown made.
- Temporary Crown: While the crown is being created at the dental lab, a temporary crown is inserted to protect the tooth.
Second Visit: Fitting and Placement
- Removal of Temporary Crown: The temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown’s fit and colour are checked.
- Adjustments and Cementation: Any necessary adjustments are made, and the crown is cemented into place. We will make sure the crown fits snugly and looks natural.
What are the benefits of dental crowns?
Dental crowns offer numerous benefits, including:
- Restoration of Function: Crowns restore the function of damaged teeth so you can easily bite and chew without any pain.
- Protection: They protect weakened teeth from further damage or decay.
- Durability: Crowns are strong and long-lasting, potentially lasting many years with proper care.
- Aesthetic Improvement: Crowns can considerably improve the appearance of your teeth, providing a natural and attractive smile.
- Comfort: Once in place, crowns feel and function just like your natural teeth.
